Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Racquet Sports guides all daily operations for the club’s racquets program (tennis, pickleball, and padel), consistently cultivating a welcoming and inviting atmosphere for members of every age and ability. The Director leads and supports a talented team of 16 racquets professionals, anticipates member needs, directs all lessons, clinics, tournaments, and events, and coordinates member engagement across every touchpoint. Primary Responsibilities

The Director of Racquet Sports leads the creation and delivery of an exceptional member experience across all facets of the club’s racquets operations. This leader designs and advances a dynamic, inclusive, and forward-looking program that engages players of every age and skill level through instruction, social and competitive play, and signature events. Oversight extends to the care and presentation of the club’s courts, facilities, and grounds, ensuring standards consistent with a premier, platinum-level private club. The Director also champions a collaborative, team-oriented environment that inspires excellence, innovation, and pride throughout the racquets department. 

Programming & Instruction

• Develop, implement, and oversee instructional programs, including private lessons and group clinics for tennis, pickleball, and padel across a wide range of days/times to meet the varying needs and schedules of the membership. 
• Create and deliver new programs to enhance member engagement with all racquet sports, catering to both adults and juniors.
• Facilitate a well-organized, welcoming inter-club league tennis program, featuring a well-planned pre-season program and in-season structure of practices, clinics, and match play.
• Expand competitive opportunities through in-house leagues and organized play options.
• Create and promote a variety of social events across various times, including evenings and weekends, for tennis, pickleball, and padel.
• Coordinate and officiate tournaments, exhibitions, and social gatherings designed to entertain and engage members. 
• Plan and execute high-caliber major events such as Member-Guest Tournaments, Pro League Matches, Club Championships, Season Openers, and other significant “major” racquets-focused events.

Operations & Management.

• Embrace opportunities to learn from, communicate with, and adopt best practices from the club’s management team.
• Serve as an integral and equal member of the club’s high-performing senior leadership team.
• Implement and uphold racquet sports policies and procedures.
• Maintain clear and proactive communication with members, committee members, and colleagues.
• Oversee and support the Pro Shop Manager to ensure the successful operation of the full-service pro shop, including Open to Buy plans and ordering of hard goods, inventory control, cost of sales management, stringing, and equipment customization.
• Collaborate with the General Manager on budget development for the racquet sports department.
• Ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of all racquet sports facilities. Inspect all physical areas constantly and coordinate maintenance, repair, and cleaning of all courts and facilities. 
• Work in tandem with the food & beverage department to ensure a wonderful member experience at racquets events that include food & beverage. 
• Ensure the accuracy of financial transactions and record-keeping for lessons and clinics.

Communications & Member Relations

• Provide exceptional service to all club members and guests using the North Hills Club’s 5-Star Promise.
• Maintain a visible presence during peak play periods.
• Ensure that all club members and guests receive courteous, prompt, and professional attention to all their needs.
• Develop and promote an annual calendar of racquet sports activities.
• Set up and conduct orientations for new members regarding racquet sports programming.
• Contribute racquet sports content for the club's member communications.
• Proactively market events, programs, and instructional services to the membership.
• Work closely and in a timely manner with the club’s Director of Marketing and Communications to ensure proactive and well-planned communication that is consistent with the club's branding.

Assistant Professionals & Staff

• Recruit, train, develop, evaluate, and manage Assistant Professionals and racquet sports staff in alignment with North Hills standards.
• Foster trust and build strong relationships with the club’s existing Senior Leadership Team.
• Represent the club at local, state, and national racquet sports events.
• Collaborate with other departments to support racquet sports events.
• Coach and develop staff to ensure a continuous improvement mindset that evolves to meet member expectations. 
• Ensure all employees consistently comply with the North Hills club policies and employment laws.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Five or more years in a racquets sports leadership position within the private club industry.
• Competitive tennis playing experience at a high level. Prior collegiate playing experience preferred with a current tennis NTRP rating of 4.5 or above (UTR 7-9+ Male/4.5-6.5+ Female).
• Successful experience in a role that included responsibility for the management of a pro shop.
• Tennis, Pickleball, and Padel certification from RSPA (i.e., Elite RSPA Professional), comparable PTR certifications, or other recognized organizations.  
• College Degree preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

The base salary range for this position is projected at $165,000 - $175,000, with a bonus potential of up to 15%, plus commissions from lessons and instructional programs. Additional benefits include employer-paid group Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance, with spouse and dependent coverage offered at employee expense through pre-tax payroll deductions, and employer-paid group Life, Short-term, and Long-term Disability insurance; a Simple IRA plan with an employer match of up to 3%; vacation, employee meals, Professional Development Budget, Professional Dues, and Uniform Allowance.
