Position Summary
The Tennis Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of tennis operations at the club, including program development, staff management, member engagement, and facility maintenance. This leadership role ensures the highest quality tennis experience for members and guests, fosters a vibrant tennis community, and promotes the growth of the sport within the club.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Development: Design, implement, and supervise a comprehensive range of tennis programs for all ages and skill levels, including clinics, camps, private lessons, leagues, and tournaments. Primary focus will be on Adult Programming while overseeing and collaborating with the Junior Tennis Director.
- Staff Management: Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate tennis professionals, instructors, and support staff. Foster a positive team environment and ensure ongoing professional development.
- Member Engagement: Build relationships with club members, address concerns, solicit feedback, and encourage participation in tennis activities. Promote a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
- Facility Oversight: Ensure the tennis courts, equipment, and related facilities are maintained to the highest standards. Coordinate with maintenance staff for repairs and improvements.
- Budget & Administration: Develop and manage the tennis department budget, including payroll, equipment, and event expenses. Maintain accurate records and reports.
- Marketing & Promotion: Collaborate with the club’s marketing team to promote tennis programs, special events, and membership growth through various channels.
- Event Management: Organize and direct club tournaments, outside tournaments, social events, and interclub competitions with an appropriate balance for member satisfaction.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, and club policies. Promote sportsmanship and adherence to tennis rules.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a tennis professional or coach, with a strong background in program management.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to motivate and manage a team, work collaboratively, and resolve conflicts.
- Knowledge of tennis instruction for various ages and skill levels.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- RSPA or other relevant certification required.
- Experience with budgeting and administrative tasks.
- Flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings as required.
Reporting Structure
The Tennis Director reports to the Club General Manager and works closely with other department heads, the Junior Tennis Director, tennis staff, and club members.
Compensation
$120,000 - $165,000 (includes salary, lesson commission, and other commissions)
Compensation is commensurate with experience and may include a base salary, lesson commissions, and performance incentives. Benefits may include health coverage, paid time off, and professional development opportunities.
