Job Summary:
The Director of Racquets is responsible for the leadership, development, and daily operation of the club’s Pickleball and Platform Tennis programs. This role focuses on delivering an exceptional member experience through high-quality programming, strong staff leadership, organized leagues and events, sound financial management, and active on-court presence. The Director of Racquets serves as the primary ambassador for racquet sports within the club community.
Position Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all Pickleball and Platform Tennis programming which includes leagues, tournaments, clinics, camps, and special events.
- Run men’s and women’s Pickleball and Platform Tennis leagues and be present for all matches and major events.
- Provide private and group lessons, including team instruction.
- Recruit, onboard, train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate racquet staff; set annual goals and conduct performance reviews.
- Partner with the Director of Clubhouse Operations and the Sports Complex Committee to align initiatives, policies and capital planning with the Club’s overall strategic direction.
- Operate the department within the approved budget, managing revenue and expenses each month, and prepare future budgets.
- Represent the club with distinction in the community and within the industry.
- Ensure the facility, courts and equipment are maintained to the highest standards.
- Uphold and enforce Club policies regarding Sportsmanship, attire and facility use with consistency and respect.
- Manage purchasing, sales and inventory for the Pickleball and Platform Tennis Pro Shop.
- Communicate regularly with members through schedules, announcements, and newsletter contributions.
- Build and oversee a comprehensive program that balances social, competitive and instruction with family-friendly offerings for all skills and ages.
- Expand junior and youth racquets programming.
- Maintain racquets records, including event calendars and trophy recognition.
- Create and maintain an annual racquets event calendar and actively promote programming to drive participation.
- Track participation and evaluate performance to guide continuous improvement with programs.
- Oversee point-of-sale system to ensure proper member billing for all racquet related fees and charges.
- Manage expenses according to the budget and submit invoices in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly and professionally with members, staff, and club leadership.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from members and employees.
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills as well as strong written communication skills for newsletters, emails, schedules, and event materials.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Experience leading racquets programs, preferably in a private club environment.
- Strong knowledge of pickleball and platform tennis.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business, Recreation, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in managing racquets programs, preferably in a private club or similar hospitality environment.
- Demonstrated experience teaching Pickleball and Platform Tennis, including leagues, clinics, and private instruction.
- Prior supervisory and budget management experience preferred.
- Proficiency in management systems and point-of-sale platforms.
- Certification from a recognized racquet sports organization (e.g. RSPA, PTR, USPTA) is preferred.
- CPR, First Aid and AED certifications.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods.
- Ability to demonstrate racquets techniques and participate in on-court instruction.
- Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies (up to approximately 50 pounds).
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Base Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000 (based on experience)
