Job Overview
Meadow Swim and Tennis is small and vibrant club with 4 hard courts, used for instruction, competition, and recreational play. We are seeking a Director of Tennis to lead our tennis programs and elevate the experience for players of all ages and skill levels. This leadership role involves overseeing the development, organization, and execution of tennis activities, coaching staff, and community engagement.
Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Development
- Design, operate, and promote a comprehensive tennis program including:
- Junior development programs and camps
- Adult clinics, leagues, and social play
- Private and group lessons
- Special events, tournaments, and club championships
- Foster participation and enthusiasm among players of all ages, genders, and skill levels.
- Monitor trends in local and regional tennis programming and adapt offerings to meet member needs.
Instruction & Coaching
- Provide high-quality instruction in private and group lesson settings.
- Maintain a strong on-court presence during programming (20 hours min) and lead by example in teaching methodology and professionalism.
- Teach fundamentals, stroke mechanics, match play strategies, and sportsmanship appropriate to each level.
- Private lessons compensation in addition to salary
Junior Tennis Leadership
- Oversee all junior tennis programming, including year-round development, summer programs and teams.
- Coordinate junior tennis activities with the club’s summer swim and Dolphin Days programs.
- Create a positive, structured, and fun learning environment for young players.
Staff Management
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate tennis staff and assistant professionals.
- Set teaching standards and expectations to ensure consistent, high-quality instruction.
- Schedule staff to meet program needs and member demand through Court Reserve.
Operations & Administration
- Prepare and manage the annual tennis budget in collaboration with the Tennis Committee.
- Monitor program revenues and expenses to meet financial objectives.
- Oversee tennis equipment and court usage; coordinate maintenance needs with the club’s Maintenance Chair.
- Enforce all club rules and policies related to tennis facilities and programming.
Community & Professional Engagement
- Serve as an ambassador for the club within the local tennis community.
- Maintain active involvement in professional organizations and continuing education.
Qualifications
- PTR and/or USPTA certification (required)
- Experience teaching tennis and managing programs and staff
- Proven success working with both juniors and adults across a range of ability levels
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to balance instruction, administration, and member relationships
- Develop and implement comprehensive tennis programs tailored for various age groups and skill levels, from beginner clinics to advanced tournaments
- Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate a team of tennis coaches and instructors to deliver high-quality lessons and clinics
- Coordinate scheduling of court time, tournaments, special events, and youth camps to maximize facility usage and member engagement
- Foster a positive environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, safety, behavior management, and enjoyment for all participants
- Oversee maintenance of tennis courts and related facilities to ensure optimal playing conditions
- Promote community involvement through outreach programs, youth development initiatives, and partnerships with local schools or organizations
- Monitor program success through feedback collection, participation rates, and performance metrics to continually improve offerings
