Reporting to the General Manager, and working in partnership with the Racquets and Wellness Committees, the Director of Racquets and Wellness guides all daily operations for the club’s racquets program, consistently cultivating a welcoming and inviting atmosphere for members of every age and ability. The Director leads and supports a talented team of professionals, anticipates member needs, directs all lessons, clinics, tournaments, and events, and coordinates member engagement across every touchpoint. Collaborating closely with club leadership, the Director strives to continually enhance and elevate the overall racquets experience for the Chartwell members.

The club’s amenities extend to an Aquatic Center with Olympic sized swimming pool and kiddie pool, Tennis & Wellness Center showcasing seven Har-Tru tennis courts, hard-surfaced pickleball court, strength training and cardio center, and group fitness class room, Golf Shop with sixty electric Club Car golf carts, tournament staging area, fully stocked golf shop with hard and soft goods, Clubhouse with two member dining rooms, Ballroom, and three additional smaller party/meeting rooms, and a Greens Maintenance Building.

Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for the leadership and oversight of racquet sports and wellness center activities for a premiere private club membership of 730 families. Duties include day-to-day operations including hiring, training, scheduling, programming, and equipment and court maintenance. Must be a visible and approachable leader with the ability to uphold standards while building staff culture and the member experience.

Direct Reports include: Assistant Director of Racquets, Racquets Professionals, and Fitness Professional. Seasonal staff includes teaching professionals, personal trainers, and group fitness instructors. Hourly support staff are budgeted for both racquets and wellness to assist in facility and court coverage.

Programming & Instruction

• Develop, implement, and oversee instructional programs, including private lessons and group clinics across a wide range of days/times to meet the varying needs and schedules of the membership. 
• Create and deliver new programs to enhance member engagement and expand competitive opportunities through in-house leagues and organized play options.
• Facilitate a well-organized, welcoming inter-club league tennis program for all racquet sports, to include a well-planned pre-season program and an in-season structure of practices, clinics, and match play, designed to attract new league members and enhance the experience for all players.
• Create and promote a variety of social events across various times, including evenings and weekends.
• Coordinate and officiate tournaments, exhibitions, and social gatherings designed to entertain and engage members. 
• Develop robust, competitive junior pathways aligned with USTA standards to advance skill growth and long-term player development.
• Oversee a best-in-class racquets summer camp program.

Operations & Management

• Maintain clear and proactive communication with members, committee members, and colleagues.
• Serve as an integral and equal member of the club’s high-performing senior leadership team.
• Embrace opportunities to learn from, communicate with, and adopt best practices from the club’s management team.
• Manage an operational budget which exceeds $300,000 and monitor department financial performance versus budget, including payroll management.
• Oversee department POS operations to ensure accurate member billing and accurate sales/activity reports.
• Implement and uphold compliance of all racquet sports policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with the General Manager on budget development and oversight for the racquet sports department.
• Daily inspection and preparation of the courts and facilities prior to the start of play with coordination of any maintenance issues with the Facility Manager and General Manager.
• Ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of all facilities and Inspect all physical areas constantly and coordinate maintenance, repair, and cleaning of all courts and facilities. 
• Work in tandem with the food & beverage department to ensure an outstanding member experience at racquets events that include food & beverage. 
• Supervise the successful indoor tennis bubble operations including installation, maintenance, security, and transition back to outdoor courts.

Communications & Member Relations

• Provide timely and clear communication for events and programs, including collaboration with key stakeholders such as team captains and committee members. 
• Maintain a visible presence during peak periods of play.
• Ensure that all club members and guests receive courteous, prompt, and professional attention to all their needs.
• Develop and promote an annual calendar of racquet sports programs, tournaments, and major events as well as a calendar of wellness activities. 
• Set up and conduct orientations for new members regarding racquet sports and wellness programming.
• Work closely with the club’s Communications staff and contribute content for all scheduled club-wide member communications.

Assistant Professionals & Staff

• Recruit, train, develop, evaluate, and manage Assistant Professionals, Fitness Professionals and support staff.
• Foster trust and build strong relationships with the club’s existing Senior Leadership Team.
• Collaborate with other departments to support racquet sports and wellness events.
• Coach and develop team members to ensure a continuous improvement mindset that continually evolves to meet member expectations. 
• Personally adhere to and ensure that all employees consistently comply with club policies and all employment laws.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• At least 4-7 years of total experience as a Racquet Sports Professional, ideally within a member–owned club environment, with at least three years in a role that includes leadership responsibilities; however, this does not need to have been in a Director position. The club will consider a first-time Director. 
• Competitive tennis and platform tennis playing experience at a high level. Prior collegiate tennis playing experience is preferred with a current tennis NTRP rating of at least 4.5 or above (UTR 8.0 – 10.5 Male/6.0–8.0+ Female)
• Experience in a role that included responsibility for the oversight of a pro shop.
• Tennis and Pickleball certification from RSPA (i.e., Elite RSPA Professional), or comparable PTR or other recognized organization’s certification.  
• Fitness or wellness certification is not required as the Director will supervise certified fitness instructors.
• College Degree - Associate’s Degree (AS) preferred or commensurate career experience.
