The Cleveland Skating Club is seeking an energetic, passionate, and service-oriented Assistant Director of Tennis Player Development to join our Racquet Sports team. This individual will work closely with the Director of Racquet Sports to develop, coordinate, and deliver exceptional tennis programming for both junior and adult members.
The Assistant Director will play a key role in increasing member engagement by creating innovative instructional programs, clinics, leagues, tournaments, camps, and special events that enhance the overall member experience. This position combines on-court instruction, program development, event coordination, administrative responsibilities, and racquet services while helping foster a welcoming, inclusive, and high-energy tennis community.
This position reports directly to the Director of Racquet Sports.
Essential ResponsibilitiesProgram Development & Management
- Assist in planning, organizing, and executing all aspects of the Club's tennis programming.
- Develop an annual calendar of clinics, leagues, camps, tournaments, and special events for players of all ages and skill levels.
- Create new programming designed to increase participation, member satisfaction, and departmental revenue.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Racquet Sports on junior and adult programming initiatives.
Tennis Instruction
- Provide high-quality private and group instruction for junior and adult players.
- Teach proper technique, stroke production, strategy, match play, and sportsmanship.
- Deliver engaging lessons that promote player improvement and enjoyment of the game.
Player Development
- Monitor player progress and provide constructive feedback to help members achieve their goals.
- Encourage long-term participation through personalized coaching and relationship building.
- Support junior player development from beginner through advanced competitive levels.
Tournaments & Events
- Assist in organizing junior and adult tournaments, leagues, and USTA programming.
- Coordinate registration, scheduling, communication, and event logistics.
- Help plan and execute member socials, exhibitions, camps, and special events throughout the year.
Member Engagement
- Build strong relationships with members and families through exceptional customer service.
- Communicate regularly with parents and adult participants regarding programming, player progress, and upcoming events.
- Foster an enthusiastic and welcoming tennis environment that encourages repeat participation.
Facility & Operations
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and functionality of the racquet facilities.
- Ensure courts, teaching equipment, and amenities are maintained to Club standards.
- String member and demo racquets in a timely and professional manner.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Assist with program registration, scheduling, record keeping, and member communications.
- Support administrative needs related to junior programming, adult programming, and USTA activities.
- Maintain accurate player records and assist with reporting as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience managing tennis or racquet sports programming.
- Experience teaching private lessons, group instruction, clinics, camps, and match play.
- Experience supervising or mentoring tennis professionals is preferred.
- Collegiate tennis playing experience preferred.
- Current UTR rating of 9.0 or higher preferred.
- USPTA or PTR certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience with USTA programming and league administration is a plus.

- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and demonstrate tennis movements repeatedly.
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year.
