Job Description
Lateral is looking for individuals to join its 2026 Associate class within the investment team in
Burlingame, California. This is a rare opportunity to gain direct investing experience in a lean,
entrepreneurial environment and work directly with senior investment professionals across all aspects of
the investment lifecycle from origination through portfolio management.
Associates at Lateral are active contributors in sourcing, execution, and portfolio management:
developing thematic investment theses, originating new opportunities, conducting deep due diligence,
building detailed financial models, and engaging directly with founders and management teams. The
role is designed for candidates who are intellectually curious, analytical, and driven to build a long-term
investing career in private equity.
Key Responsibilities
• Source and evaluate new investment opportunities by developing proprietary market theses,
mapping sub-sectors within software and tech-enabled services, and cultivating relationships
with founders and executives
• Conduct comprehensive due diligence across financial, market, and operational dimensions,
including detailed modeling, valuation analysis, and assessment of key growth drivers and risks
• Drive critical workstreams throughout the transaction process, coordinating third-party advisors,
synthesizing diligence findings, and contributing to Investment Committee discussion materials
• Collaborate with senior team members to structure transactions, negotiate deal terms, and
support closing and post-close integration efforts
• Partner with portfolio company management teams to monitor performance and advance
strategic and operational initiatives, including organic growth projects and M&A opportunities
Qualifications
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience at top firms within investment banking
or private/growth equity
• Strong financial modeling, analytical, and critical thinking skills; able to evaluate complex
businesses with varying degrees of operational maturity and data quality
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to engage founders and
executives directly
• Collaborative mindset with humility, integrity, and a strong work ethic
• Undergraduate degree and/or MBA from a leading academic institution

Alpine Hills has established a renowned tennis program. The junior tennis program has won numerous interclub and league titles and has been recognized by USTA NorCal for its outstanding JTT Programs, tournaments and events. The club and it's members boast numerous National titles and awards. Alpine Hills hosted the California state championships from 1968 to 1975. The first tiebreaker in the world was played at Alpine Hills in 1970. Arthur Ashe, Rosie Casals, John Newcombe and Billy Jean King all competed on the Alpine courts. In 1994 the club hosted the Britannia Cup for men 65 and over sponsored by the International Tennis Federation Tournament, an event representing 11 countries that rotates to the United States once every four years. We continue to honor this legacy by hosting national tournaments and other prestigious events like the Maze Cup, the only annual competition between USTA/Socal and USTA/Norcal.
