We’re seeking an experienced, energetic, and community-focused Head Professional (Head Pro) to lead the next chapter of success at Lakewood Racquet and Sport Club. This is a unique opportunity to shape tennis & pickleball programming, grow member engagement, and make a lasting impact at one of the region’s most established clubs.
Position Overview
The Head Pro is responsible for the leadership, development, and day-to-day management of all tennis & pickleball operations. Duties may be performed personally or delegated to tennis personnel, but the Head Pro is ultimately accountable for the success of all programs, pro staff, and member experience.
This role reports directly to the General Manager and works closely with club leadership and the Board to strengthen and expand tennis offerings.
The Head Pro is expected to devote full and exclusive work time to the role and may not engage in outside business activities without written approval from the GM.
Compensation
Lakewood Racquet Club offers a competitive and performance-based compensation structure:
Part-time salary: $25,000/year (based on experience)
Covers management responsibilities (4 - 5 hours/week)
Teaching & lesson income:
Head Pro receives 60% of income from group and private lessons taught (25-30 hours/week)
On-Court vs. Off Court needs:
90% On-Court (70% Lessons + 30% Programs)
10% Off-Court (Such as, but not limited to; admin work, meetings, committee & board meetings, professional development). Assist in running tournaments as requested. May temporarily increase # of Admin hours per week and reduce on-court hours based on tournament needs.
Performance Reviews & Growth
The Head Pro will receive an annual performance review each third quarter.
Following a satisfactory review, the Head Pro will be eligible for:
A yearly cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), based on the CPI-U (Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers), U.S. City Average, All Items, as published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
Additional merit-based salary increases for exceptional performance (at Board and GM discretion)
Required Qualifications
4-year college degree or equivalent experience
USTPA and/or USPTR certification
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with Tennis Portal systems, Court Reserve a plus.
CPR and AED certified preferred. If not, LRC will train.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Leadership
Recruit, onboard, train, and supervise Tennis & Pickleball Pros and Associate Instructors
Schedule and assign teaching responsibilities
Conduct regular staff meetings and annual performance reviews
Coordinate with the GM on club operations, events, and facility needs
Maintain an accurate record of all lessons and clinics given including client info and payments
2. Membership & Player Experience
Ensure all members and guests receive professional, welcoming service
Provide high-quality instruction and strategy development
Support retention efforts and help grow club membership
Work with GM and staff to ensure court conditions & equipment are clean, safe, and useable.
3. Programming & Community Engagement
Develop and expand instructional curriculum for all skill levels (youth & high-performance youth tennis, adult tennis, and pickleball)
Plan and oversee clinics and social tennis & pickleball events
Collaborate with USTA and area clubs to enhance programming
Work with Sports Committee to promote and market tennis offerings throughout the local community
4. Tournament Management
Collaborate with the GM & Sport Committee on the annual tournament calendar
Ensure we are properly staffed with professionals as needed for any Tournament
Help build excitement and participation for tournaments to ensure success
